Pittsburgh Flying Club, Inc.
Arnold Palmer Regional Airport (LBE)
Your Friends in High Places - Since 1957

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Flying Club located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

We're a friendly group of pilots sharing the joy of flying and we invite you to join our club.

If you have your certificate then you can be flying our Piper Archer and our Cessna 172 very soon after contacting us. If you're not yet a Private Pilot you may still join, become an owner, and learn how to fly in your own airplane.

Pilot or non‑pilot, we look forward to meeting you!

Location and Aircraft

The Pittsburgh Flying Club was established over 50 years ago in Pittsburgh, PA, but is now located at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, PA.

We own an IFR certified 1976 Piper Archer II and lease an IFR certified 1979 Cessna R172K Hawk XP II. Our airplanes are hangared within a few steps of each other at the Latrobe airport. A description of the Archer can be found on our Archer page and one of the Cessna is on our Cessna page and there are additional photos throughout our site. We get compliments on the appearance of our airplanes wherever we go and we're quite proud of their looks and condition.

Why Join?

We offer a well-maintained aircraft at very competitive hourly rates based on tachometer time. Our airplane is available for use anytime that no other member is flying and can be reserved for overnight or multi-day trips. We offer the camaraderie of like-minded pilots, share the responsibilities of aircraft ownership, meet regularly to discuss club business and aviation issues, attend AOPA and FAA safety seminars as a group, and fly together every chance that we get.

Membership

The club is 20 pilots strong and is accepting new members. Join us, become a part owner, learn how to fly, earn an advanced rating, take an extended trip, and have great fun!

Why Are We Called The Pittsburgh Flying Club?

We were incorporated as the Pittsburgh Flying Club more than 50 years ago when we were located closer to the city of Pittsburgh. We have been based in Monroeville, Murrysville, Delmont, and Greensburg, PA, and have also homed numerous aircraft at the Greensburg Jeannette Regional Airport / Boquet Airport in Jeannette and at the Westmoreland County Airport in Latrobe.

Although we've been headquartered in multiple locations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties in southwestern Pennsylvania, we've consistently kept our name as the Pittsburgh Flying Club. Given our location today and of the past several years, we could have changed to the Latrobe Flying Club, the Westmoreland Flying Club, or the Greensburg Flying Club but we prefer to keep the identifier that we've used for more than half a century.

We are glad that you found us as the Pittsburgh Flying Club and we welcome you and invite you to join us.

Flight Training and Exam Preparation

If you're not a pilot but are interested in learning to fly, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has useful getting started information and of course our officers, members, and club flight instructors will advise and encourage you throughout your training. We want to help you to progress from new member to new pilot!

Are you ready to start studying for your FAA written exam, or perhaps have previously passed the written but need to review the material covered in the ground school? On our links page you'll find recommendations for DVD and online versions of FAA exam preparation courses, some of which offer a money back guarantee that you'll pass your Private Pilot's written exam.
